Oh Tofino…. where to even start. This place was incredible. I have travelled Canada coast to coast. I have been to every single province, and I have seen some incredible places. But Tofino wins. Tofino captured my heart immediately with its deep culture, ridiculously friendly and laid-back locals, its location and its AMAZING food. I could move there - no joke. The funny part is we actually visited in the off-season. It did make for some weather-related complications, but getting rain about every second day worked out fine for us. We would explore for a day, then work for a day! Tofino is also a place that sees a flock of tourists in the summer, and while I don't mind a few extra bodies… I was also happy to check it out when we did. We visited from Nov 7-Nov 15th. Here is our travel guide!
Crystal Cove Beach Resort
Located right on Mackenzie Beach (so gorgeous!) Crystal Cove Beach Resort had it all! While it is more well-known for its cabins for rent on the beach, they have several private, full hook-up RV sites - sandwiched between the shower/laundry facilities and the main office which hosts FREE Starbucks drip coffee to guests AND has a full espresso bar. With wifi, hot showers, firewood (all free!) and its un-beatable location… this place cannot be missed! Check out our full experience here.
Rhino Coffee House
Widely known around town as having life-changing coffee & donuts (for good reason), this is where the locals are going for lunch! A fun & laid back atmosphere and a lunch menu that is fresh, healthy and out-of-control delicious… do not miss this spot while in Tofino! Check out our full experience here.
Jamie's Restaurant & Lounge
A talented Chef & a laid-back pub atmosphere… this is comfort food done right! There is nothing better than walking straight off of the days hike and into a cozy spot for dinner for a glass of wine and a yummy meal without having to change. This is that spot! Check out our full experience here.
Wolf in the Fog
Wolf in the Fog is THE food spot in Tofino. It was awarded Canada's Best New Restaurant 2014 by EnRoute Magazine, and it's food is creative and DELICIOUS… with the coolest atmosphere I have probably ever seen. I would highly recommend a reservation as it is the favourite of locals and travellers alike - but make sure this is on your Tofino list of must-dos. Check out our full experience here.
Things to Do and See
Roy Henry Vickers Art Gallery
Checking out the shops and art galleries in town is definitely a must-do while visiting Tofino. While I enjoy checking out local art…the Roy Henry Vickers Art Gallery hit me in a way that no art gallery ever has. The music and ambience of the gallery sets such a beautiful tone, and the art is so vibrant and it truly comes alive with the personal stories told underneath the pieces. This isn't just a gallery - its an experience. Make sure to give yourself lots of time!
Huge trees, boarded walkways, and a breath-taking beach. The only downside of this park is how many photo-ops there are (makes for a bit of a longer walk hahaha)! This was the epitome of West Coast beauty. It is an easy hike and not very long… but definitely worth doing.
Day Trip to Ucluelet & Pacific Rim National Park
Ucluelet is another stunning town that you must visit while you are in Tofino. After breakfast - head out towards Ucluelet. On the way - you will be driving directly through Pacific Rim National Park. There are many stunning hikes along the way - all relatively short (half hour/hour loops) - with my personal favourite being the Rainforest Trail. Stopping to check out the GORGEOUS Long Beach and the short loops towards Ucluelet (they are all very well marked from the highway) will get you to Ucluelet right around lunch. Check out the cool local shops in town and get lunch at one of the many funky local restaurants! After lunch be SURE not to miss the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse. There is a small loop around the area that is part of the larger Wild Pacific Trail. A jam-packed day - but so worth it and WAY too much fun.
