Sooke, BC

Sooke, BC is a relatively small town about 45 minutes away from Victoria on the southern strip of Vancouver Island.  Nature is the focus of this town (and its surrounding area)  - attracting outdoor enthusiasts with its amazing hiking, whale watching, sport fishing and nearby surfing.  We arrived in Sooke on Oct 30, 2016 and stayed until November 7.  Due to the fact that we have close friends who live in Sooke - this wasn't our first time to the town, but it was the first time that we were able to explore its awesome sights and enjoy its killer local food.  Here is our personal travel guide.

Food

Lunch - Shirley Delicious

Nothing beats a hot chai latte in a cozy cabin on a rainy day - but when you throw in super rad people, sandwiches on fresh focaccia and life-changing cheesecake brownies… you are seriously winning at lunch!  Check out our full experience here.

Dinner - Route 14 Bistro

Dinner - Route 14 Bistro

My favorite part of a long day exploring is finding an awesome laid-back spot for some good food & awesome drinks.  The food here is comfort food taken to a whole new level, and the Bocconcini Salad is in the top 5 best restaurant salads I have ever had.  This is where the locals are going for dinner - and you definitely should be too!  Check out our full experience here.

Sights to See

Sooke Pot Holes

Sooke Pot Holes

Sooke Pot Holes attract tons of locals and tourists alike in the warmer months as a great spot to go for a swim.  Given the time of our visit - a swim wasn't in the cards for us!  But with great trails, stunning viewpoints, and natures beauty around every corner… it's a hiking spot you definitly don't want to miss.

Whiffen Spit

Whiffen Spit

Whiffen Spit is a natural (yet maintained for public accessibility) spit that hosts the Sooke Basin on one side and the Juan de Fuca Strait on the other.  Its a super easy walk that can be done at a leisurely pace - and there are tons of locals around to chat with!  There are plenty of instagrammable photo-ops along the way - so make sure to bring your camera.

French Beach Provincial Park

Photosource:  Trip Advisor

Whether you are walking the stunning beach, binge-watching the waves, or taking in the well-maintained trails of the park - French Beach is the epitome of natural, Vancouver Island beauty.   It is situated between Sooke and the nearby popular surfing spot Jordan River, and almost next door to Shirley Delicious cafe!  Would make for a lovely day trip :)

If you are planning a trip to Vancouver Island - be sure to put Sooke on your list of places to visit. Don't forget to send me your pictures!  Hit me up on twitter or instagram @wayfaretrail
